Black Swallowtail emerges

One Black Swallowtail emerged from its chrysalis this morning. I had expected these to over winter.

I finally finished getting ready the area in my garden to grow false nettle. It took a long time to find a source of seeds, and then even longer to get them to germinate. False nettle is used as a host plant by Question Marks, Commas and Red Admirals (and maybe others). I hope to get some of the plants planted in there tomorrow.

A beautiful Buckeye was hanging out in front of the house nectaring on the sedum for a long time. I took a few pictures of it with its wings open. I hope they took ok, it didn't leave its wings open but a second at a time.
